I found lately that the famous PURPLE HEART medal, was created by George Washington..but it was for MILITARY MERIT...the modern PURPLE HEART now awarded to recognize combat wounds was devised by Army Chief of Staff Douglas Mc Arthur in 1932...
ciao have a great day

Very interesting my dear BigGreg !
Do you have any more information about that? Was that exactly the same pattern for the medal after 1932 and so on... Could you post a picture of it?
I could translate it into French if you want.
Thanks pal!

Ok..
George Washington himself had the idea to attribue "Badge of military Merit" that should have been awarded for military achievements. This was the original tense for the Badge "Let it be known that he who wears the military order of the purple heart has given of his blood in the defense of his homeland and shall forever be revered by his fellow countrymen." The Badge of Military Merit was only awarded to three Revolutionary War soldiers and fell into disuse following the War of Independence. Although never abolished, the award of the badge was not proposed again officially until after World War I. Before the badge that we all know it was like that

then after the decision of the chiefs of staff and especially by Douglas McArthur, who commisioned a new design it became like this and an image of G. Washinton was put on the medal to celebrate also his 200th birth anniversary

on the medal you find a gold image of G. Washington as I said, on a purple back, plus his
Coat of arms ( identify his heraldic Family)
